Parking & Drive Away Reminders

Forgot to end your parking session? Here’s what to do

Go to the Parking & Drive Away Reminders home page

You drove off, got home, and only then remembered: the parking session is still running. It happens to a lot of drivers.

What actually happens when you don’t end it

The charge for a forgotten parking session keeps running, and stops, according to the location and the hour of the parking.

So you will not find a charge of hundreds for a whole night. But you will pay for hours the car was no longer parked — and that is money spent for nothing.

What to do right now

  1. Open the parking app you paid with and end the session. Even late — every minute you close now is a minute you will not pay for.
  2. Check your parking history to see when it actually ended, and what was charged.
  3. If the charge does not seem fair, contact the parking app’s customer service, or the city where you parked. Some make an exception the first time.

And if you appeal — your phone holds the evidence

If you have asked the parking app’s customer service or the city to cancel a charge or a fine, you can attach evidence showing when you actually left the spot: your phone’s location history.

In Google Maps it lives under “Your timeline”, and you can export the day in question. If the history is switched off on your phone, it was not collected retroactively — so this option exists only for people who have it turned on.

It does not guarantee the request will be accepted, but an appeal with evidence of the hour the car left the spot is far stronger than one that says “I forgot”.

Why it happens at exactly that moment

By the time you reach the car your head is already on the drive: where you are going, what time it is, who is waiting. Ending the parking session is a small action with no natural reminder — nobody prompts you, and the car does not beep.

So it repeats. Whoever forgot once will forget again.

How not to forget next time

Some parking apps now offer a service that detects the car driving away and ends the session by itself. That is a good solution — but it works only inside that one app, and usually on a paid monthly plan.

If you sometimes pay with one app and sometimes with another, or you also park at a meter or with a pay-and-display ticket, it will not cover you.

Parking & Drive Away Reminders

Parking & Drive Away Reminders is a separate app that works alongside your parking app, not instead of it. Next to the car you start the watch on the parking, and when the app detects the car has driven away from the spot, it reminds you by voice to end the parking session in your parking app. When the phone is connected to the car by Bluetooth, through the car speakers too.

The alert fires only when both conditions are met: you are far enough from the spot, and the phone is moving at car speed. Walking away does not trigger it.

The app reminds, it does not end the session — the decision stays with you.

And it works with every parking app installed on your phone, and with a meter or a pay-and-display ticket too — where nobody else helps.
